Bio

Daniel studied biology in Köln (B.Sc.) and Münster (M.Sc.) and joined the Hölzel lab to study glucocorticoid-signaling in melanoma. Glucocorticoid treatment is currently one of the "Top 10 Challenges in Cancer Immunotherapy". Glucocorticoids play a central role in the treatment of ICB- and IEC-related side effects. At the same time, the clinical relevance of extra-adrenal and intratumoral glucocorticoid synthesis and activation is becoming increasingly clear. It has been shown that blockade of Glucocorticoid-signaling by CYP11A1-, CYP11B1- and NR3C1-inhibition reduces tumor growth and/or metastasis in diverse tumor models. Daniel aims to understand intratumoral glucocorticoid-signaling to improve immunotherapy for melanoma.
